Dear Colleagues,

I wanted to take a moment to inform you and your trainees of a unique opportunity. At Mayo Clinic Arizona we have an opening for our Endourology Fellowship program focusing on advanced endourologic techniques, research, and innovative robot-assisted and laparoscopic surgery.

The Endourology Fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Arizona offers both a 2 year fully accredited position as well as a new one year Advanced Certificate of Completion beginning in July 2014. The comprehensive program develops skills in endourology and minimally invasive surgery, but can be structured to meet the individual objectives of the trainee.

The fellowship is structured to allow the fellow to master: metabolic stone disease, endourology, complex laparoscopy and robotics, and holmium laser enucleation of the prostate. There is a huge clinical volume of surgical cases as well as provisions and support to allow the fellow to develop individual research projects and investigational skills.

Urologist specialist in minimally invasive techniques: Endourology, Laparoscopy and Robotics.

Description:
The Robotic and Minimally Invasive surgery Department of Urology, La Floresta Medical Institute (CIMI) specializes in endoscopic surgery, laparoscopic and robotic surgery, pioneered by a single orifice and NOTES in the area of worldwide urology. We have created a training program in Minimally Invasive Urologic Surgery for graduate urologists in order to train them in Endoscopic surgical techniques, laparoscopic and robotic, enabling them to acquire knowledge and develop skills in this area.

A doctor in training should combine activities, acquire skills in endourology, laparoscopy, NOTES and LESS. We have a Dry Lab with all the facilities required for training in inanimate models; in addition, we have partnerships with veterinarian institutions for training on living animals. We have all the equipment for video editing, plus access to medical literature and videos.

We have microscopic equipment for joint meetings with the departments of pathology and oncology. Our training center has the most advanced equipment for high definition video conferencing, using optical fiber with a speed of 50 megabytes, for exchanges with leading academic centers around the world in the specialty.

A fundamental part of our development is the collection of medical data, with software created for the collection and interpretation of data, thus facilitating the subsequent publishing.

We are one of the most important surgical reference points in Venezuela, performing 30 major surgeries per month.

We are dealing with the entire range of endourological procedures. Stone management is fully covered since we have a big case load of percutaneous, ureteroscopic and SWL procedures. In addition we perform the following laparoscopic procedures: cyst decortications, nephrectomies, pyeloplasties, ureteral reconstructions, adrenalectomies, and radical prostatectomies. We do not perform robotic surgery since we do not yet have a robot. We will have one by the end of 2009. Our research is mainly based upon animal studies, and in vitro stone research. New ideas are welcome from fellows and the facilities are here to satisfy our needs. The fellowship is a 1 year engagement and consists of both research and clinical activities. Please be aware that our department cannot provide a salary and that you should ensure your own funding.
