Job Information

Cleveland Clinic – Glickman Urologic and Kidney Institute, Fellowship in Advanced Endourology and Stone Disease

This is a 2-year fellowship, which immerses trainees in high volumes of clinical and surgical management of endourologic disease, and a variety of research opportunities.

This fellowship is geared to train the next generation of leaders in endourology. This is accomplished through focused hands-on surgical training and academic activities. We currently have one of the busiest stone programs in the United States. The fellows will become proficient in obtaining their own percutaneous renal access with ultrasound, fluoroscopy, and/or endoscopic guided techniques, and also in Holmium laser enucleation of the prostate.  All aspects of training in stone surgery will be offered including mini PCNL, Endoscopic combined intrarenal surgery (ECIRS), supine PCNL, prone split leg, ESWL, etc.

Regularly performed procedures

  • Percutaneous nephrolithotomy (standard, mini PCNL, ECIRS)
  • Access Techniques – Ultrasound, Fluoroscopic, endoscopy guided
  • Ureteroscopy
  • Shock wave lithotripsy
  • HoLEP

As a center of innovations, this fellowship also has a particular focus on cutting-edge endourologic research, with early access to novel devices and techniques that are routinely incorporated into practice.  The fellows will have the opportunity to rotate with our dynamic endourology fellowship faculty to allow exposure to various practice styles and skills.  We also have a nephrologist focused on medical stone management in our faculty for both clinical and research collaboration.

There will be a strong emphasis on research with opportunities for both clinical and basic science projects. We have an active database for urinary stone disease and have statistician support for analyses. Additionally, bench-top and animal lab facilities are available to facilitate basic science, translational or engineering projects as well as medical device testing (biomedical, nanotech, and ergonomics). We also have a full-time PhD scientist dedicated to stone research.

Additional fellowship opportunities include a staff appointment within the department. This allows the fellow to run an independent clinic and schedule their own surgical cases. Call responsibilities are designed to be minimal, with the goal of allowing the fellow to focus on their clinical and research ambitions.

Fellows work very closely with the residents and have opportunities to mentor medical students and residents in research.  Fellows are given protected research time through the fellowship and are given opportunities to obtain research grants through the Cleveland Clinic’s research center.

We invite all US and Canadian graduates to apply.

We require completion of the USMLEs prior to ranking in July for the match. You must also be eligible to obtain a permanent Ohio license which includes a minimum of 2 years of clinical training in the United States.
