Job Information

Northwell Health
The Endourology Fellowship program at the Smith Institute for Urology offers world class training with an unparalleled track record of producing leaders in the field.  The fellowship faculty is comprised of five renowned endourologists, providing a unique depth of experience and mentorship including Dr. Louis R. Kavoussi, Dr. Arthur Smith, Dr. Lee Richstone, Dr. Zeph Okeke, and Dr. David Hoenig.

The fellowship program offers three unique tracts/opportunities.  We offer (1) a comprehensive two-year postgraduate program consisting of the full range of endourology/stone work, laparoscopic and robotic surgery for benign and malignant disease, specifically designed to train urologists with plans to pursue academic careers; 2) a one year stone fellowship, and 3) a one year laparoscopy/robotic surgery fellowship.

The two-year program integrates clinical and research work in minimally invasive surgery for kidney stone disease, urologic oncology, laparoscopic reconstructive surgery, laparo-endoscopic single site surgery (LESS), laparoscopic donor nephrectomy, and the full breadth of robotic surgical training. The fellowship will encompass basic science, clinical research and patient care. The research projects will be supported by and integrated with non clinical research fellows to facilitate the exchange of ideas and maximize productivity. Basic science research labs are available for collaboration through the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research (http://www.feinsteininstitute.org). The fellow will be expected to design his/her own projects as well as join ongoing experiment and work in collaboration with the research fellows.  The goal of the training is to equip the fellow with the skills and knowledge in basic science and clinical urologic research methodologies to pursue independent investigations.

The one year fellowships offer extensive surgical/clinical training, opportunities to publish extensively, and lay the groundwork for independent practice and investigation.

In addition, the fellows are involved in resident and student teaching. Fellows have attending privileges as junior staff, as well as clinical instructor appointments.

The fellowships involve clinical work at two tertiary centers located close to one another, including the Long Island Jewish Medical Medical Center and the North Shore University Hospital. Other hospitals include: Lenox Hill, Huntington Hospital and Southside Hospital. Past fellows have enjoyed living in nearby suburban communities, as well as in Manhattan, Long Island City, and Brooklyn, New York, with acceptable commuting schedules.
